Mexico produces 99.9 percent of the eggs for its own market

The presence of Avian Influenza AH5N1 in poultry farming in the United States has affected 58.1 million birds in production.

Derived from the illegal trade or smuggling of eggs from Mexico to the United States, it is estimated that during the period from November 1 to January 17, 390 eggs were seized daily, which is not significant considering that 136 million eggs per day are produced in Mexico..

The National Union of Poultry Farmers (UNA) informs that Mexico -SENASICA and UNA- implemented an exhaustive monitoring program for avian diseases, which has been successful, since the Avian Influenza outbreaks were registered on the national territory, for which, to date, 150 million vaccines have been applied.

In Mexico, the presence of Avian Influenza AH5N1 has affected 5.6 million birds. So far, this does not represent a significant impact on the industry's ability to maintain the egg supply in the domestic market. It is important to comment that Mexico has a flock of 172 million chickens.

The egg is a multifunctional food with excellent quality protein and a variety of nutrients that provide health benefits.

Mexico is the main consumer of eggs per capita in the world with 23 kilograms per inhabitant per year.
