Mexico is pushing its meat exports to Asia through Singapore
Mexico wants to make an entrance on some important Asian markets through Singapore and a coordinated strategy agreed between both parts is now developed, reports Mexican Beef portal.
A working meeting to strengthen the agri-food trade relationship in the Asian region was held this week at the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food(SAGARPA) headquarters between the General Coordinator of International Affairs of SAGARPA, Raul Urteaga Trani, and Ambassador Jennie Chua.
In the first phase, 14 Mexican agribusinesses (beef and pork, avocado, chia, banana, octopus, shrimp, tuna and sauces) will be present at the Expo Food & Hotel Show Asia in Singapore, from April 21 to 27.
The trade mission also plans to participate in business tables in Vietnam, which allows progress in the actions that lead to the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Treaty of Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) that will grant preferential access to Mexican products in said markets, confirmed Raul Urteaga.
In fact, the possibility of Mexican meat to access new markets in Asia or in Europe is a topic present on the agenda of the 2018 World Meat Congress (WMC) hosted in Dallas, Texas between May 31- June 01 by hosted by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) and the International Meat Secretariat.
"Mexico’s cattle and hog sectors have attracted significant investment, but what are the prospects for production growth and related implications for global trade? Does this include diversification of Mexico’s red meat exports and imports beyond the United States?", is the question launched by the USMEF representatives.
