Mexican market welcomes British pork offal
This development, estimated to generate £18m over five years, builds on the initial opening of the Mexican market to British pork over three years ago.
A new AHDB brochure, produced in Spanish, to support this market expansion highlights the cultural importance of offal in Mexico. Attractive imagery showcases products like tails, snouts and cheeks, designed to appeal to local consumers and buyers.
These photos have also been integrated into stand graphics, with Mexican chef Gerardo García demonstrating how to prepare these products during events.
Offal plays a significant role in Mexican cuisine, featuring in many traditional dishes. And Mexico’s growing appetite for meat products, particularly pork, underpins the importance of this market access.
Pork is the second most consumed meat in the country, yet domestic production cannot meet demand, which has grown by 4.7% annually between 2017 and 2022.
As one of the world’s largest pork importers, Mexico offers a key opportunity for British exporters to maximise the value of their products and create new revenue streams.
This achievement reflects successful collaboration between the UK Government, industry and AHDB, showcasing the high standards of British farming.
By accessing new markets, such as this, the British pork sector can improve profitability, reduce waste and reinforce its reputation on a global scale.
