Marfrig, a global leader in hamburger production and one of the largest beef companies in the world, opened a second plant in Bataguassu, Mato Grosso do Sul. The unit will produce hamburgers, which will add value to the company's commercial portfolio and meet the high internal demand of the food service segment (restaurants, bars, bakeries), especially driven by delivery in the last two years.

Marfrig inaugurates a new hamburger production unit in Brazil

The plant covers 7,850 square meters, received investments of 130 million reais and uses state-of-the-art equipment, imported from the United States and European countries, which bring more quality and agility to the production processes. With this, the unit becomes the most modern in the company in terms of automation technology.

Marfrig's new Bataguassu operation will add 24,000 tonnes of hamburgers per year to the company's current production of 220,000 tonnes/year. And it will generate 150 direct jobs, which contributes to bringing more opportunities, development and income to the region. The enterprise also meets with projects from the government of Mato Grosso do Sul, which, through initiatives like this, encourage the industrialization of the production chain in the state.

"This new factory, in addition to meeting the high demand of the domestic market, will be able to export to countries with which we already have excellent commercial relationships", says Rui Mendonça, general director of industrialized products in South America at Marfrig. He adds that the implementation of the unit will increase the production of manufactured items by Marfrig, which has been growing.

Marfrig's national production of hamburgers is concentrated in the Várzea Grande industrial complex, in Mato Grosso, responsible for 72,000 tons of the product per year. The plant also produces kibbeh, meatballs and ground beef, as well as products from PlantPlus Foods, a plant -based food technology created by Marfrig and ADM. Launched in 2021, the first 100% plant-based protein line is made up of kibbeh, ground beef, hamburger and meatballs. In May of this year, PlantPlus Foods announced an extension with four new items: beef patty and prime rib burgers (firsts in the segment), shredded chicken and Tuscan sausage, which will be marketed in August.
