Marfrig classified as low risk by FAIRR Initiative

The fifth edition of the ranking is produced by the FAIRR Initiative , a collaborative network of more than 360 international investors that aims to raise awareness of the environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities brought about by intensive livestock farming. The initiative assesses 60 global animal protein companies based on 10 risk indicators -- including greenhouse gas emissions, water use, deforestation and animal welfare -- and is used by major investors around the world to make decisions based on sustainability criteria.

The 2022 edition shows that, compared to last year, Marfrig's overall score in the ranking advanced by 11 percentage points, reaching third place among all evaluated companies. After the implementation of the new methodology adopted by the FAIRR Initiative this year, the company improved in seven aspects of the ten evaluated.

Marfrig is one of only two companies in the ranking that provide guidance and technical assistance to producers to help manage water availability and risk - 98% of the water footprint of meat and dairy products comes from food production.

"This year, Marfrig reached its best position in the FAIRR Initiative ranking . This assessment reflects the advances made in the ESG sphere and the consolidation of the Marfrig Verde+ Plan, launched in 2020", says Paulo Pianez, director of Sustainability and Corporate Communication at Marfrig. "Our main objective is to make our value chain 100% free of deforestation and we obtained significant results in 2022, reaching 72% of monitoring of indirect suppliers in the Amazon and 73% in the Cerrado."
