Malaysia goes into lockdown

Following a spike in coronavirus cases reported last days in Malaysia, the country's government decided to impose a lockdown from March 18 to 31, reports Salaam Gateway agency. During this time, the country will be placed under a nationwide restriction, with inhabitants banned from exiting the country and locals coming from abroad forced to undergo a health inspection and self-quarantine for 14 days.
Foreigner travelers are banned from entering the country and the food supply will be provided from local sources, according to a statement from Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. Gatherings are forbidden, including religious, sporting, social and cultural events and all shops are to close except food retail businesses such as markets, supermarkets, minimarkets and convenience stores.
In the last two days, Malaysia reported more than 300 new cases of coronavirus infections, totaling 553 cases. Severe measures have been adopted by countries on other continents such as Italy, Germany, France, Russia, the USA, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
