LIDL CEO resigns abruptly
German retail giant Schwarz Group, the owner of Lidl and Kaufland retail chain stores, is confronted with a series of high-profile executive departures. Three weeks ago, Patrick Kaudewitz, CEO of Kaufland, resigned abruptly and his example was followed by Jesper Hojer, Lidl CEO, who resigned this week.
Hojer, a native of Denmark, had served in Neckarsulm, Germany as Lidl’s CEO for two years. He was the highest ranking executive across the entire company, which operates more than 10,000 discount stores in 29 countries. Lidl is currently involved in an expanding operation in the US market.
Hojer motivated his resignation as a "personal decision". He was replaced by Ignazio Paterno, deputy purchasing director, as provisional leader until a new CEO will be named. In the meantime, Schwarz Group CEO Klaus Gehrig has temporarily taken control of the Kaufland chain while a replacement for Kaudewitz is sought, informs Winsight Grocery Business magazine.
