June sets another record for Brazilian pork exports
This June, Brazil reported another record for pork exports after surpassing the milestone of 1 million tonnes reported last year. The month of June closed with an income of $270.2 million, an unprecedented fact in the monthly survey of the segment. Also, the volume of 108,800 tonnes, up 13.2% from the same month last year, is the second-best performance in the sector in a month. China remains the main destination, ahead of Chile, Vietnam, the Philippines and Argentina, informs the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
“The return of economic activity in various regions of the world has positively impacted sector exports. The lower offer in competing countries, such as the US, has led Brazil to increase its participation in the global trade in pork and, given the forecasts, it should be the focus throughout this year of 2021", evaluated the director of ABPA markets, Luis Rua.
Figures for the first half of the year show that Brazil may achieve another record in pork exports for 2021. For the first six months of the year, the South American producer shipped 562,700 tonnes of pork (+17.39%), worth $1.349 billion, 25.4% more than in 2020. "These are impressive numbers that demonstrate the vitality of the chain even in the midst of a pandemic. At the same time, we cannot forget that the segment suffers a lot from production costs, notably the prices of soybeans and corn. This entire context will dominate most of the debates and lectures that PorkExpo 2022", said Flavia Roppa, Creator and President of the event.
PorkExpo 2022 and the 10th International Swine Congress will be held on October 26th and 27th, 2022, in Foz do Iguacu with a focus on international trade and innovations for pig farming.
"The Asian market and some countries in South America maintained positive demand on Brazilian exports, maintaining the forecast of growth in foreign sales for this year. The good performance has helped to reduce the impacts of historical production costs and signal years of prosperity for our country's pig meat," concluded Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
