JBS to double hamburger production

JBS Group will double the hamburger production in one of the plants owned by its subsidiary Friboi in Campo Grande. The frozen sector had already a capacity of 2,000 tonnes per month, consisting mainly of hamburgers and meatballs. The plant slaughtered an average of 1,800 animals a day until last year and was served by more than 1,500 employees, according to Campo Grande News.
For the next 4 years, the Group intends to invest almost $2 billion in its plants to increase production capacity due to a growing demand for animal protein in the global market.
"We will continue to invest in all our plants in the coming years, which reaffirms the company's long-term commitment to Brazil," said Friboi President Renato Costa earlier this week.
Last week the company also opened a new unit in Mato Gross, with an initial capacity to process 500 animals per day. The company invested more than $17 million in the acquisition and construction of the plant.
