Italy is getting close to 100 cases of ASF
Italy counts 91 cases of ASF so far, all in wild boars, according to the latest OIE report. The EU country seems to follow the same scenario as in Germany, where a dozen cases reported in the wild boar population turned into a real crisis that is blocking important volumes of meat inside the country. In the protection zone of the northwestern region of the country, where the outbreaks are concentrated, the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta has confirmed, as of April 10, 91 cases.
Of these 91 outbreaks, 57 cases have been found in Piedmont and 34 in the Liguria region. ASF cases in Italy have been reported since January this year, after nearly 40 years of absence.
