Ireland to shutdown the meat supply chain during the snowstorm
Even there not placed far away from the highways, meat factories in Ireland could close the gates until the end of this week as a cold snap is hitting the country.
Eddie Curran, the general secretary of the ICSA, declared that some beef and lamb factories are considering the opportunity of a shutdown in the next few days.
"Most meat factories are in rural locations and off the beaten track. They might not be a million miles away from motorways, possibly around 10 miles or more, but you’re talking about heavy transport both in terms of livestock coming into the factories and products being dispatched", mentioned Curran for The Irish Times.
From his point of view, consumers who are looking to eat beef or lamb between now and the end of this week should stock up as "it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that factories will close".
