Iran sees increased meat production
A total of 36,200 tonnes of red meat were produced in Iran during the fourth month of the current Iranian year (June 21-July 21) to register a 44% rise compared with the similar month of last year, according to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI). Meat output has registered an increase of 19% compared with the previous month.
Beef accounted for 56.3% (20,400 tonnes) of the overall production, while lamb came to second place, with 12,400 tonnes, marking an increase of 46% year-on-year. Also, 2,700 tonnes of goat meat (up 35% YOY) and 709 tonnes of meat from other types of livestock were produced during the period, reported SCI.
At the beginning of the pandemic, Iran was one of the worst-hit countries and animal farmers have been complaining about the impact of the coronavirus crisis in the Iranian meat market. The figures reported by SCI may reflect a recovery in meat processing and better market condition for the producers.
