Iran Veterinary Organization starts a vaccination campaign in poultry farms

Iran Veterinary Organization is decided to fight back against the danger represented by the deadly avian flu that has taken its toll on the poultry industry in 2017.
10 million doses of vaccines, worth €650,000 have been imported from Mexico in order to tackle the threat that is still present in the region, reports local newspaper Financial Tribune.
"It was decided to undertake the vaccination of the highly acute avian flu in poultry farms across 12 provinces. Vaccination started in egg production units of Qazvin, Alborz, Tehran and Qom provinces. The process is set to continue later in the provinces of East Azarbijan, Mazandaran, Gilan, Golestan, Markazi, Fars and Khorasan Razavi", Director General of IVO’s Health and Management of Poultry Diseases Office Alireza Akbarshahi said.
Despite the effort done to vaccinate the birds in this regions, Iranian poultry sector needs to modernise almost 40% of the farms in the country to meet the requirements for quarantine and environmental safety.
In 2017, the avian flu outbreak forced the Iranian poultry producers to cull 27 million birds and the losses were estimated at $ 500 million.
