International sales of pork from Brazil increase 14.9 percent this year

In revenue, the comparative high reached 25.4%, with US$ 184.9 million in February 2023, compared to US$ 147.4 million in the second month of last year.

Already in the first two months, sales of pork accumulated an increase of 14.9%, with 167.9 thousand tons this year, against 146.1 thousand tons in 2022.

With this, the revenue obtained in dollars reached US$ 397.3 million, a number 28.9% higher than the effective one in the same period of 2022, with US$ 308.3 million.

"The numbers for the first two months are in line with ABPA projections, which indicate a possible increase of more than 10% in exports throughout 2023, which should be reinforced by recent market openings. This is the case, for example, of the first sales to the Mexican market, which were closed in February and will soon reach the North American country", assesses ABPA's director of markets, Luis Rua.

Largest importer of Brazilian pork, China was the destination of 73.1 thousand tons in the first two months of this year, surpassing by 37.8% the shipments registered in the same period last year. Next are Honk Kong, with 14.9 thousand tons (+4.9%), and Chile, with 13.5 thousand tons (+93.6%).

"Since the second half of last year, pork sales to China have resumed a pace close to that seen in 2021. Asian demand added to the good performance of exports to partners in the Americas, such as Chile, signal a positive scenario in the external market and in the sector's exports throughout this first half", highlights the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
