Indonesia's beef consumption for Ramadhan to exceed 100 000 tons

Indonesians are expected to consume 116,000 tons of beef in one month, during the Ramadhan period, between May and June, said I Ketut Diarmita, head of the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health.
According to the institution, 75,000 tons of beef will be supplied from domestic sources while the rest will be secured with beef imports from Australia, New Zealand and buffalo meat from India, reports Black Sea Grain portal.
The Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health also announced that Indonesia will not allow yet the imports of Brazilian beef due to a delay in audits for the facilities in the Latin American country, mentioned I Ketut Diarmita for Saalam Gateway.
Indonesia has halted the imports of Brazilian beef since March 2017, when the "flesh meat" scandal has erupted. An audit mission was sent to Brazil in March to conduct a month-long study regarding the halal slaughterhouses but the report was not completed in time. "Currently we are conducting risk analysis studies for cattle slaughter housing in Brazil", declared Diarmita. The team that conducts the audit is looking for any evidence regarding the existence of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).
