In South America, Chile rules in terms of pork consumption

Pork consumption in South America is different for each country and, despite Brazil being a major pork producer, the highest rate of consumption is in Chile. Chileans are eating 18.7 kg of pork per capita, 1.4 kg more than it is consumed in Brazil., 2.8 kg plus Aregentina and 6.5 kg over the consumption rate reported in Colombia. In terms of production, Brazil leads the top (4,891,000 tonnes reported in 2021), followed by Argentina (695,000 tonnes) and Chile (590,000 tonnes).


Brazil is also the main exporter from this part of the world (1,115,000 tonnes), followed by Chile, with 275,000 tonnes and Argentina (30,000 tonnes). Imports are running high in Chile (146,000 tonnes), Colombia (131,000) and Argentina (42,000). Last year, Brazil imported almost 6,000 tonnes of pork.
