INTERPORC: Continuous work to prevent African Swine Fever

That is why it is convenient to constantly remember that we must not forget the prevention measures.
At INTERPORC, we periodically carry out actions to prevent outbreaks from arising because we definitely know that the best defense against ASF is prevention work. It is in this context that we must frame our active collaboration with the PREVPA Operational Group.
This OG ensures that all professionals in the pork sector and the hunting subsector are warned and maximize the effectiveness of preventive measures aimed at preventing ASF from reaching our country.
In order to do this, it tries to contribute to an effective management strategy for wild boar populations in Spain; in addition to preparing the pork farming sector to reduce the risk associated with wild boar; and we try that all the sectors involved give an effective response to ASF and improve their data and knowledge exchange.
For instance, some of the works carried out by the OG are the publication of an informative decalogue with the main measures to maintain sustainable control of wild boar populations; numerous training workshops that have had hundreds of attendees; or the biosecurity audits carried out on Spanish pork farms where very interesting data was obtained in order to subsequently take effective biosecurity measures.
The most important thing in the fight against ASF is awareness to keep us alert. For this reason, at INTERPORC we consider it vital to reinforce biosecurity measures aimed at protecting ourselves from this terrible threat that has advanced across Europe with the wild boar movements.
