INTEROVIC signs deal with Amazon
INTEROVIC and Amazon are now working together to support the goat and sheepmeat sector in Spain. A collaboration agreement to offer lamb meat to consumers in Madrid and Barcelona through Amazon Prime Now's fast delivery service has been signed this week.
According to INTEROVIC announcement, this measure is seen as the only way to dispose of excess volumes of lamb, goat and sheepmeat in the Spanish market.
The closure of the HORECA channel to fight the expansion of the coronavirus, as well as the brake on exports, have had a direct effect on producers. It is estimated that 70% of this production has ceased to be marketed.
That can be translated into €160 million in losses for the sector and bringing the products directly to Spanish households may be the only way to protect the producers. "This agreement marks an unprecedented milestone in the sector. The support of Amazon represents an opportunity to boost online sales," declared Raul Muniz, President of INTEROVIC.
"We are very happy to be able to collaborate with the Spanish sheep and goat sector at a time like this and, in turn, continue to delight our consumers with a broader fresh product catalog. Thanks to this initiative, dozens of local farmers and producers will be able to deliver their best meats to thousands of Prime customers in Madrid and Barcelona," added Camille Bur, Country Manager of Amazon Prime Now, Spain and Italy.
