Hungary: The bird flu epidemic reached Hajdú-Bihar county

With this, another county became infected in the 2022 autumn epidemic. Protection and monitoring zones have been designated, and partner countries have also been notified of the outbreak.
In the colony of 25,812 breeding turkeys located in the settlement of Nádudvar in Hajdú-Bihar county, the increase in mortality, the depression of the animals, and the decrease in their water and feed consumption drew the attention of the livestock keeper to the possible appearance of bird flu. The Nébih laboratory finally confirmed the presence of the H5N1 subtype of the virus in the herd.
Animal health experts have started to eradicate the affected herd, and a 3 km radius protection zone and a 10 km radius observation zone have been designated around the farm.

In the free areas of Bács-Kiskun and Csongrád-Csanád counties, the previously introduced restrictions and mandatory swab tests are still in effect. In addition, swab tests are mandatory throughout the country before the technological movement of waterfowl.
Nébih's laboratory also detected the presence of the virus in wild bird excrement samples collected in Debrecen. These results also support the fact that keeping flocks closed and strict adherence to epidemic prevention regulations is extremely important, as only these can reduce the risk of poultry flocks coming into contact with infected wild birds.
