Hong Kong authorities to inspect Brazilian slaughterhouses
Four slaughterhouses will be audited in the state of São Paulo between 11 December and 14 December. The authorities from Hong Kong will also visit the National Agricultural and Livestock Laboratory (Lanagro), in Campinas, São Paulo.
Luís Rangel, Secretary of Agricultural Defense of the Map, said that "Hong Kong is a great market for Brazilian meat. Despite the problems with Brazilian meat in 2017, the country was one of the most understanding clients. It did not block our exports, but made a lot of verification requirements, which was to be expected."
According to data provided by Map, in 2017, Brazil shipped meat worth US$ 14.2 billion to Hong Kong.
"They want to make sure that the plants that sell meat to Hong Kong are under Ministry surveillance," Rangel said. "Yesterday (7) I participated in a video conference with the health authorities from this country to present the credentials of Brazil. I hope the veterinary mission returns to Hong Kong confident in the Brazilian health security system."
