Goodman Food Products recalls 15 tons of beef due to foreign matter contamination
More than 15 tons of frozen, fully cooked ground beef patty and crumble items produced by Goodman Food Products, Texas are recalled from the market due to possible foreign matter contamination.
The announcement was made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) after several complaints about hard, white plastic material found in the fully cooked ground beef products were received. These products were purchased by USDA Foods for the National School Lunch Program (NLSP). These items were shipped to institutional locations in Maine and Connecticut.
According to USDA, the problem is classified as a Class I recall, with a high health risk for the consumers. FSIS is concerned that some product may be in school freezers or refrigerators. School nutrition professionals who have purchased these products are urged not to prepare or consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
