Goat processing unit to be open soon in West Bengal
An experiment that took place among the locals in Haringhata, involving the buyer appetite for goat meat consumption, led in the end to the decision of West Bengal government to build a goat processing unit in the area, informs KNN India.
The facility is to be built under the authority of West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation and it will have the capacity to process 300 goats on a six hours shift. The authorities said that the product is in high demand in the region and the unit could meet a part of the demand.
The meat would be packed in 500 gram and 1-kilogram packets. At full capacity, it is expected for the plant to produce 2.5 tonnes of packed meat per day. After the plant becomes operational the meat will be sold in 240 stores across the state. The initial investment is set at RS 3 crore, approximately $30 million.
