Germany's meat consumption fell for every product

Meat consumption in Germany fell by 2.1 kg last year, according to official preliminary data released by the Federal Information Centre for Agriculture. Pork consumption recorded the most significant drop (1.3 kg), followed by beef (0.6 kg) and poultry (0.2 kg). As a result, last year's per capita consumption in Germany was as follow pork (31 kg), poultry (13.1 kg), beef and veal (9.4 kg). Low consumption of animal protein had an impact on imports, with only poultry imports remaining stable compared to 2020, while beef and pork imports took a dive. Production fell also, by 2.4% on pork, and 1.6 on both poultry and beef. However, statistical data reveals that Germany has a rate of self-sufficiency of 96.7% for poultry, 132.4% for pork, and 98.2% for beef.
