France butchers request Police support on the war with Vegan vandals
Representatives of Confederation Francaise de la Boucherie, Boucherie-Charcuterie, Traiteurs (CFBCT) have met with French Police officials to request support in front of the new wave of attacks committed by the hardline vegan activists in France.
Several butcher shops were vandalized in April in northern France but there are also attacks reported on fishmongers from that region.
CFBCT leader, Jean-Francois Guihard requested that the impunity enjoyed by the hardline vegan activists to end and a closer surveillance for each group and organisation in this movement. "Obviously we don’t expect to have a gendarme guarding each store. First shops were targeted with graffiti and splattered with fake blood, now their windows are shattered and ransacked. It’s simply unacceptable", he said after the meeting with Interior Ministry officials, reports portal.
The CFBCT confederation, which represents 18,000 businesses across the country, said two more attacks had taken place since last week, bringing to “at least 50 the number of shops targeted with graffiti or smashed windows”.
The violent form of protests is believed to be used by some vegan activists unhappy with the new legislation adopted by the French Parliament in April, in which the use of such terms as “steak”, “fillet” or “sausage” to refer to non-meat products is banned. A similar wave of attacks was reported in Spain.
