Four outbreaks of ASF in domestic pig herds in Poland

After a long break, African swine fever has flared up again in Polish agriculture. After the disease was confirmed in two farms in Voivodeships region in early June, two more cases in pig farms were reported.

These are said to be smaller companies, one in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and the second in the Sagan district of the Lubusz Voivodeship.

Before the first ASF outbreak in a pig farm this year, there was a break of almost six months. According to some experts, the fact that four new cases have occurred within a very short time indicates that a new wave could now begin. Last year, the disease broke out in a total of 124 farms; more than 41,000 domestic pigs had to be culled as a result.
