Foot-and-mouth disease continues to spread in Hungary
The Hungarian authorities are implementing all the measures outlined in Delegated Regulation 2020/687 to control the newly affected area. Furthermore, in order to reduce the risk of virus spread, they have ordered emergency vaccination to suppress the new outbreak while the slaughter of animals is carried out, which is scheduled to begin on March 28. Finally, they have established a complete 72-hour halt to the movement of susceptible species in the Györ and Monsonmagaryróvár districts and a ban on their release to pastures. Only animals from farms in both districts located outside the restricted area may be sent for immediate slaughter.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food recommends strengthening cleaning and disinfection protocols for vehicles, as well as increasing awareness of the existing risk and passive surveillance on farms, immediately notifying the official veterinary services of the autonomous community of any suspected disease.
