Five Romanian slaughterhouses are certified for halal exports in Turkey

5 Romanian slaughterhouses units are declared compliant with the halal requirements of the General Directorate of Meat and Milk Authority in Turkey, informs the local news portal Industria Carnii, citing government sources.

The first five halal slaughterhouses from Romania were inspected by the Turkish officials in order to be declared compliant with the halal requirements. Other businesses have to request an inspection from the General Directorate of Meat and Milk Authority of Turkey to achieve the same certification. Turkey allows only imports of halal beef, while the sheep imports are strictly prohibited regardless of country of origin.

Romanian government sources mentioned that local Muslim certification is recognized by the Turkish authorities but, nevertheless, the slaughterhouse must have a Turk butcher and to be inspected previously.
