Finland is switching from pork to poultry

Finns are eating the same amount of meat, 81 kilos per year, including game meat and edible offal, but red meat is constantly losing ground in this market.
The average pork consumption in the country is 32.5 kilos (-3%), according to statistic data recorded last year. Beef has dropped to 19.3 kg, while poultry has increased its presence on the Finnish menus reaching last year an average consumption of 25.6 kilos/person, maintaining a decade-long trend of increased consumption among Finns.
According to the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), the consumption of liquid dairy products decreased by 3% to 155 kilos per capita, following a drop of 5% in milk consumption.

The consumption of grains, in turn, stood at 79 kilos per capita, signaling a drop of one kilo from the previous year. The total is made up of 44.6 kilos of wheat, 15.3 kilos of rye, 7.3 kilos of oats, 6.0 kilos of rice, 1.8 kilos of barley and 0.7 kilos of maize. The Finns menu also includes 14 kilos of citrus fruits, 45 kilos of other fresh fruits and 64 kilos of fresh vegetables, informs Helsinki Times.
