Filipino food industry is targeting 4 new markets in Europe
Food products from the Philippines are to be promoted in all the four markets comprised under the name of EFTA (European Free Trade Association): Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Iceland.
The announcement made by the Philippines' Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is following a recent agreement signed for some commodities that are under the food and processed food products, said Nora Terrado, an official from DTI, for ABS CBN News.
"The reason we would like to promote our food products in those countries is that we recently ratified a free-trade agreement on a couple of commodities that are under the food and processed food products. When they enter these markets it would be zero tariffs, so it is beneficial for our manufacturers to promote in these countries", mentioned Terrado.
Seafood is already in focus for importers after local products were exposed at IFEX 2018 Philippines under the slogan "Best of the Seas".
During the expo, Filipino companies have managed to strengthen their presence in markets such as the US, China, Japan, Germany, and South Korea.
