Egypt opens the market for new Brazilian poultry products
Egypt allows poultry imports from Brazil due to higher prices for beef and a lack of animal protein in the country. Whole and cut chickens already had the certificate to enter Egypt, but with the issuance of the new document, the export requirements for these two items were updated and new products, such as processed ones, were included. Egypt released imports of products made with poultry meat from Brazil about a week ago, which includes derivatives such as nuggets, canned chicken meat, sausages and bologna, among others. The purchase of the blanquet, made from turkey meat, was also allowed.
"With the high demand from China for beef, the price went up a lot, 19.2% from January to May this year over the same period last year, and then other cheaper proteins are in great demand," explained the agricultural attaché of the Brazilian embassy in Cairo, Cesar Simas Teles, for the Arab-Brazil Chamber of Commerce. Between January and June, Brazilian poultry exports to Egypt grew 27% in volume compared with the same period last year. According to Mr Teles, there are already orders from Egypt for 1,500 tons of canned meat from Brazil.
