Danish pig sector reports increased productivity

Danish pig sector reports increased productivity in 2019 and the trend seems to be present this year as well. The national average data for pig producers in the Scandinavian country has shown higher figures in growth, meat percentage, carcass weight, reference feed utilization and, according to Danish Crown, the trend remains stable for this year. "We are pleased to see that the great work that is being done among our owners every day is also reflected in the data. We are experiencing a co-operative group that is becoming more and more professional, so in that way, it is not a surprise to us that there are good results in the national average", says Kristian Jensen, general manager of the company's advisory team.
So far, Danish Crown had enlisted 21 herds in the company's Production Concept Slaughter Pigs and each of those have influenced the national average reported by Denmark. "The national average is based on figures from 2019, and when we look at the figures we have access to through dynamic growth, we can see a continued increase. In 2020, the figure is around 1,015 grams of daily growth among our suppliers, so it could indicate that the good results continue. The herds in the concept perform well and we can see that the efficiency also for the best crews is moving forward. We have room to start up a few more crews if there is anyone who is interested in trying their hand at the concept", added Mr Jensen.
