Danish Crown CEO in charge of climate-friendly rules for the Danish food industry

Group CEO of Danish Crown Jais Valeur has a new task as Food Minister Mogens Jensen has appointed him chairman of the climate partnership, an initiative that must make recommendations on how the Danish food and agricultural sector can emit fewer greenhouse gases.
Agriculture accounts for over 20 percent of Denmark's total greenhouse gas emissions, and like the rest of society, agriculture and the food sector must become more climate-friendly. A new climate partnership for the food and agriculture sector must come with its vision for the sector's green transition and its ambition for the sector's reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

It is one of a total of 13 partnerships that the government will enter into in cooperation with the business community, with a focus on helping to solve the climate challenges in a way that also supports jobs, welfare and competitiveness, informed the Ministry of Food in a press release. "We need to make our food production and our food habits more sustainable and climate-friendly. The cows in the field have to be better for the climate, we have to make more climate-friendly choices when we shop in the supermarket, and then we have to throw out less food,", stated Minister Mogens Jensen.
To lead the work, the Minister has appointed Group CEO of Danish Crown Jais Valeur as chairman. Based on his position at Danish Crown, he can identify the biggest problems and the most crucial development paths in the entire chain from production, processing, consumption and export.

"Denmark is recognized in the big world for our good food, and in the coming years, we have a unique opportunity to become a pioneer country on the climate front for the rest of the world. We are already very far ahead in terms of climate-efficient food production. But we need to be even better - and here in Denmark we can jointly find the solutions that the whole world needs", says Jais Valeur.
The partnership must reach out to all key players in the Danish food and agricultural sector. The government has asked to receive the partnership's recommendations before the government next year presents its plan for a climate action plan.
