Danish Animal Welfare Council gets two new members

Danish Minister of Environment and Food Jakob Ellemann-Jensen has just appointed the chairman and members of the Danish Veterinary Council for the next three years. Veterinarian Pernille Elisa Hansen and board member of Consumer Council Think and Chairman of Animal Protection Per Jensen have been appointed as council members and they will advise the minister on animal welfare issues. They will replace Agronomist Dorte Rebbe Schou and veterinarian Anne Sorensen starting July 2019.
Deputy Director of Copenhagen Zoo Bengt Holst continues as chairman, while nine of the previous members also continue, informs the Ministry in a press release. "The Animal Council has an important role in helping to ensure better welfare for our animals - from the pigs in the stable to wild animals in the wild. With the new composition, the Animal Welfare Council is well equipped for many exciting and challenging tasks over the next three years", declared minister Jensen.
Denmark is seen as one of the high-ranking countries in the animal welfare sector. Recently, the Ministry of Environment and Food announced that Denmark is to host an international center against antibiotic resistance as the country is well known as a leader in when it comes to reducing the use of antibiotics in livestock production.
