Czech authorities will inspect all beef imported from Poland

Czech Republic has imposed inspection measures for all the beef imported from Poland after a batch of 700 kg has tested positive for salmonella, informs news agency CTK. According to the source, the veterinary watchdog has already alerted the Polish and EU authorities about the situation.
Part of the beef was delivered to a retailer in Slovakia, according to the head of Veterinary Administration in the Czech Republic, Zbynek Semerad. Agriculture Minister Miroslav Toman said that he does not exclude a ban on Polish beef imports, considering the fact that this is the second alert triggered by the beef industry in this country after the "sick cow" scandal that took place last month.
Beef production in Poland is about 560,000 tonnes and 85% of that is exported to the other EU Member States and third countries.
Last month, a TV documentary showed a Polish abattoir killing sick cows whose meat was meant for human consumption. A volume of 2.7 tonnes of beef coming from those animals was found in the stores of several EU Member States.
