China reports FMD outbreak in a cattle herd

Chinese authorities have reported a new case of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) discovered in a cattle herd in the province Xinjiang, informs Drovers magazine.
The cattle were transported from Gansu province to the destination when the virus was discovered. 47 animals were culled after the disease was confirmed, according to a report from China's Minister of Agriculture.
The suspected outbreak was discovered on September 6 and confirmed the diagnosis of the O-type strain of the disease on September 14. Officials from Beijing insists that the outbreak is now under control. This is the eight case of FMD in livestock registered this year in China and all the lab analysis shows that is the same strain of the virus. Last month, China culled 173 pigs due to FMD.
