China hit by two bird flu outbreaks

Chinese authorities informed the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about two highly pathogenic bird flu outbreaks in two different provinces of the country.
An outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N6 bird flu at a duck farm in the Guangxi province killed 23,950 ducks out of a flock of 30,462 ducks, informs OIE, cited by Reuters. The remaining birds were all slaughtered, it said the note received by the OIE from the Chinese agriculture ministry.
Another case was reported at a backyard farm in the Shaanxi province where the H7N9 virus killed 810 layers out of a flock of 1,000 birds.
