China has imported 775,000 tonnes of meat in November

China has increased the demand for meat in November, up 1.8% from the previous months, according to data provided by the General Administration of Customs. 775,000 tonnes of meat have entered the Asian country last month, 14,000 tonnes more than the volume reported for October. The reason for the increase is believed to be buyers stocking up for the winter months, China's peak demand season. Confronted with the African swine fever crisis since August 2018, China's role in the global meat trade has become extremely important, accounting now for more than 25%.
Imports in the first 11 months reached 8.95 million tonnes, the data also showed, a 63% rise on the same period a year ago. Shipments have slowed in recent months however as the country rapidly rebuilds its hog herds and as measures to inspect frozen food cargoes for the presence of the novel coronavirus hamper clearing of goods at customs, reported Reuters.
