Canadian beef and pig meat production to decrease next year

A USDA report predicts a contraction of beef and pig meat in Canada next year. Production will decrease due to severe drought and several other factors. The impact of this year's drought will result in fewer Canadian calves in 2022, so your herd will shrink again in 2022. Additionally, beef production is projected to decline by 1% as the weight of the carcasses will be less in 2022.
Regarding pigs, although slaughter will increase modestly in 2022, pork production will decrease by 2% due to lower carcass weights. As with beef, the United States will continue to be its main importer.

Live pig exports will decline in 2022 as Canada recently resolved the labor dispute in the east of the country, which saw more than four months of disruptions in processing capacity.
For their part, pork exports will remain stable compared to the volume of 2021 due to the continued global demand due to the impact of African Swine Fever (ASF) in various regions. Imports will increase due to lower production and to support Canadian consumers' preference for certain cuts.
