British egg market is setting a historical record
Egg producers in Great Britain are celebrating a successful year, as 2017 has proved to be the most profitable in terms of egg consumption in the UK.
Eggs sales in the UK have increased for the 11th year in a row reaching a level of six billion which is a record for the past four decades, reports British Lion.
The report showed a rise of 250 million sales in 2017 on the previous year. Annual sales grew by almost 5 % in volume, and 6% in value, with an acceleration of growth seen in the final month of the year.
December 2017 figures show 9% volume growth and 8% value growth as a result of a recent change in official egg safety advice from Food Standard Agency.
“The British love affair with eggs is alive and well, and truly flourishing. Just 15 years ago we were buying only just over 4bn eggs – the rate of growth has been phenomenal and, at this rate, we could break the 7bn barrier by 2020”, said Andrew Joret, Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council.
He is also confident that 2018 is going to represent another successful year in this market. In the meantime, 1 million GBP (1,14 million euros) is going to be invested in a marketing campaign to maintain this trend with the consumers.
