Brazilian poultry sector launches national brand for duck meat

Brazil added duck meat as a nationally branded product, along with other world-renowned brands, such as Brazilian Chicken, Brazilian Pork, Brazilian Eggs and Brazilian Breeders. The decision was made by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) and the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (Apex-Brasil).
"Duck meat produced in Brazil will have an international market that will join other world-renowned brands, such as Brazilian Chicken, Brazilian Pork, Brazilian Eggs and Brazilian Breeders”, says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
The new international brand under ABPA's management seeks to increase exports in the segment, which has increased its presence on the agenda of animal protein shipments in recent years. In 2020, the country exported 3,500 tonnes for $9.2 million, according to Agrostat (Brazilian Agribusiness Foreign Trade Statistics).
According to ABPA, the premium markets for the Brazilian Duck brand are in countries in Asia and the Middle East. The region is targeted in the project that Apex has with exporting entities. Currently, around 45 companies participate in the sectorial brands, taking promotion and marketing agendas to international fairs.
“There is a great opportunity to expand the export basket with the duck sector, a high value-added poultry niche. Using the strength already established by the sectorial strategy built by ABPA and Apex-Brasil, we are going to reinforce the good perception of the Brazilian product”, says Santin, president of ABPA. Currently, the main destinations for duck meat produced are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Peru, Qatar, Kuwait, Japan and Hong Kong.
