Brazilian poultry meat sales increased slightly in 2020
Last year, Brazilian poultry exports rose just 0.4% above the volumes reported for 2019. In chicken meat, 2020 sales reached 4.230 million tons, while export revenue for the year reached $ 6.123 billion, a performance 12.5% ??lower than in the 12 months of 2019 ($ 6.994 billion). However, there was another sector to break down historical levels in exports and that was pork. "Whether due to the record of pork exports, exceeding 1 million tonnes for the first time in history, as well as the increase in poultry shipments, the sectoral projections established by ABPA and confirmed in final sales reinforce the good moment for Brazil in the international market, despite a challenging year in every way. The prospect is that the positive pace will continue in 2021, with the expected international economic recovery," says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA, after the final data was released.
According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), international sales of pork (including all products, between fresh and processed) totalled 1.021 million tonnes in the 12 months, a number 36.1% higher than that registered in 2019, when 750.3 thousand tons were exported. More than 70% of those shipments were sent to Asia, with China and Hong Kong acting as the main buyers of Brazilian pork
