Brazilian poultry exports lose in value

Sales of Brazilian poultry in export markets are growing steadily but revenue is dropping fast as the global market seems to be oversupplied at this time. Data issued by ABPA show that, in May, Brazilian poultry exports have reached 399,400 tonnes, an increase of 4.5% compared to the same month last year but the value of poultry products exported has dropped 17.3% to $546.3 million.
China was again the main market for Brazilian poultry. It was followed by Japan and Saudi Arabia. "China further cemented its status as the biggest importer of poultry and pork, and it was one of the drivers of our good results in exports. This trend will likely persist in the months ahead when it comes to Asia," stated ABPA chair Ricardo Santin in a press release. At the same time, Arab countries have contributed as well to the higher volume of poultry exported, with Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Yemen, Qatar and Libia ranking among the top 15 biggest destinations for Brazilian poultry products.
