Brazilian pork exports increased by 16.9 percent in March
In revenue, March sales totaled US$ 248.9 million, a figure 30.8% higher than that obtained in March 2022, when revenue reached US$ 190.3 million.
In the quarter, the exported volume of pork reached 274.8 thousand tons, a volume 15.7% higher than the 237.5 thousand tons shipped between January and March 2022. In the same period, export revenue totaled US$ 646 .3 million, a balance 29.6% greater than the total obtained in the first three months of 2022, with US$ 498.5 million.
"Rising production costs in the world, as well as the impacts of sanitary issues in several pork-producing countries, have sustained the upward trend in demand for our product, which is reflected by increases in sales in eight of the ten largest pork importers of Brazilian pork. Unlike what we saw in the 1st quarter of 2022, the first three months of this year follow at a pace equivalent to that seen in the second half of last year, indicating a year with a comparative high trend in exports", analyzes the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin .
Main destination of shipments, China imported 109.6 thousand tons between January and March, a number 25.6% higher than that registered in 2022, with 87.2 thousand tons. In the same period, sales to Chile, with 21.3 thousand tons (+96.8%), the Philippines, with 17.8 thousand tons (+8), Singapore, with 15.9 thousand tons (+25 .8%), and Japan, with 7.2 thousand tons (+36.9%).
"In addition to the traditional export destinations, this month saw the first shipments of pork from Brazil to Mexico, consolidating the flow of shipments to this market that was recently opened for Brazilian products. At the same time, the resurgence of African Swine Fever in China and the Philippines should keep Brazilian exports at levels above 100,000 tons per month", assesses ABPA's director of markets, Luís Rua.
