Brazilian halal poultry exports continue to grow

In 2021, Brazil, the world's largest exporter of halal poultry products, has shipped 1.915 million tonnes of halal chicken meat to 58 nations around the globe. The expectations for 2022 are high, considering that volumes exported in the first two months of the year have already increased by 5.17%, reaching 310,000 tonnes according to data released by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
In terms of value, chicken meat exported to the Islamic markets around the world in Jan-Feb this year is worth more than $500 million, up 25%. The UAE was the main destination for halal poultry products last year, taking 389,400 tonnes of halal chicken meat (equivalent to 8.7% of all exports in the sector), worth $692.2 million, reveals ABPA. This year, the UAE has further increased its imports of Brazilian products. In the first two months, it imported 85,700 tonnes, a volume 93.4% higher than the volume imported in the same period of 2021, surpassing China in volumes of chicken meat imported from Brazil.

“The Islamic nations were the first destinations for Brazilian exports of chicken meat, in 1975. We have a solid partnership built, which projects for long-term increments. Proof of this was a recent action we carried out at a fair in Dubai, Gulfood, where $1 billion in exports were projected in the coming months, just from the negotiations established at the event. Brazilian poultry farming is a nation dedicated to complying with halal and this has placed us in a strategic position to support food security in Arab nations,” says ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
