Brazilian beef remains on top of meat products exported
Brazil's beef remains the best selling meat abroad as shows recent data reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA). The meat was on the second place among the agribusiness products exported, with beef maintaining the highest position in this category.
Compared with the same month of 2017, the raw beef exports of Brazil registered an increase in value by 19.9%. The main destination for Brazilian raw beef were countries such as China ($35.28 million), Hong Kong $39.81 million), Egypt ($40.28 million) and Chile ($24.09 million). Total beef exports of Brazil, including raw beef, processed and offal, have reached to $591.97 million.
Poultry and pork exports declined by 9.7% and 23.4%, respectively. The causes for this contractions were various, chicken export being affected by both the BRF investigation and a new set of halal regulation imposed by Saudi Arabia while pork exports are facing a temporary ban imposed by Russia.Food imports fell by $96.09 million compared to March 2017, with fish being the most purchased product: $142.72 million.
