Brazilian beef exports goes down in January

The first month of 2021 marked a decline in Brazilian beef exports, both in volume and value, reported the Brazilian Meat Packers Association (Abrafrigo). According to their data, there was a 6% decline in volumes exported (12,139 tonnes), while the revenue dropped 11% to $549 million. Sales went down in Chile, Egypt, Israel and Saudi Arabia, while the Philippines, Italy, the United States have increased their demand for Brazilian beef. Compared with January 2020, sales to China and Hong Kong were up by 62.8% but have declined from the volumes imported in December.
Some of the important markets in the Middle East have reduced their demand for Brazilian beef, with Egypt importing 4,500 tonnes last month, down 13.5% from January 2020. Saudi Arabia’s imports slid by 29% to 2,800 tons, and the UAE’s were down 23.7% to 2,700 tons, reported The Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
