Brazil to export live cattle to Malaysia
Brazil reached an export deal with Malaysia following the approval of sanitary requirements negotiated in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, on the Brazilian side, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry of Malaysia.
The Brazilian government said this decision strengthens the South American country's role as "one of the world’s leading exporters of animal protein and marks an important step towards the improvement in trade relations with Malaysia".
Malaysia has a population of more than 30 million people and imports nearly 80% of its beef consumption.
Brazilian officials added that negotiations with the Government of Malaysia will continue to make possible the export of live cattle for reproduction and to increase the number of poultry and beef export licenses.
