Brazil to export bovine and poultry genetic material to Saudi Arabia
Authorities from Saudi Arabia have approved the International Animal Health certificate models developed by Brazil for its bovine and poultry genetics. Saudi Arabia has thus authorized the Brazilian imports of fertile eggs, day-old chicks, in vivo bovine embryos, in vitro embryos and bovine semen.
The sanitary negotiations between Brazil and Saudi Arabia started earlier last year with a market prospecting action launched by MAPA which identified "a business opportunity to export these commodities to the Saudi market".
Minister Blairo Maggi stressed the importance of Saudi Arabia as Brazil's trading partner, which imported more than US $ 2 billion worth of Brazilian agribusiness products in 2017. In addition, he stressed that the opening of new markets helps diversify the tariff and contributes to reaching the goal of 10% of Brazil's share in the world market for agricultural products.
The director of MAPA's Department of Animal Health, Guilherme Marques, added that Brazil's successive market openings with Saudi Arabia are due to the country's international recognition for its poultry and bovine genetics.
"The level of biosafety implemented by establishments producing Brazilian genetics and poultry lineages allows them to develop products with quality and productivity," said Marques. "The health advances of the last decade were recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) last May as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination. Also, Brazil has never had any cases of avian influenza."
