Brazil to break the record on pork exports

Brazilia pork producers are set to achieve a historical record on pork exports, with a volume of 1,03 million tonnes for the year of 2020, higher than the 750,000 tonnes exported last year, announced ABPA in a press release. Brazilian pork production could reach up to 4.3 million tons this year, a number 8% higher than that reached in 2019, with 3,983 million tons.
In the domestic market, consumption may total 3.3 million tons, up 2% more than in 2019, with 3.233 million tons, leading to per capita consumption of 15.3 kilos. According to the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, these numbers are historical records. This is the case of pork meat production and exports, chicken meat production and per capita egg production and consumption.
“Despite the highly challenging moment experienced this year, with costs at historical levels and the economic and social impacts caused by the pandemic, poultry and pig farming in the country will end the year with positive results. At the same time that they supported the country's food supply in the midst of the crisis, they fostered new job opportunities and the economy of hundreds of cities where they are located, with a direct impact on the national economy, ”says Santin.
Brazilian chicken meat production could reach up to 13.8 million tons in 2020, up 4.2% from 13.245 million tonnes produced in 2019. Shipments from the sector, on the other hand, may reach 4.23 million tonnes, a number that is 0.5% higher than the figure registered last year, with 4.214 million tonnes.
With this, the total expected availability for the domestic market should reach 9.6 million tonnes, a volume 6.3% higher compared to the same period of 2019, with 9 million tonnes. Per capita consumption is expected to reach 45 kilos in 2020, a 5% increase compared to that recorded in 2019, with 42.84 kilos. Egg production is expected to reach 53.5 billion units produced in 2020, 9.1% more than in 2019 when 49 billion units were produced.
The sector's per capita consumption is expected to reach 250 units this year, 8.7% more than the index registered in 2019, with 230 units.
