Brazil targets the Dominican Republic for pork exports
The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), with the support of the Brazilian Embassy in Santo Domingo, held an event yesterday focused on negotiations to open the Dominican Republic market for Brazilian pork, increasing the number of authorized poultry establishments to export to the country, as well as the opening for genetic material from birds. The event aimed to reinforce Brazil's differentials as a reliable supplier of animal protein to the Caribbean country.
The objective, according to the market director of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Luís Rua, was to strengthen ties with importers, stakeholders and local leaders, with the aim of, among other things, offering the possibility of Brazilian pork in addition to the local supply, which suffers from the severe impacts generated by the occurrences of African Swine Fever and with supply difficulties due to the lower availability of imported product from traditional suppliers.
“The Dominican Republic has been consolidating itself in recent years as an important trading partner of Brazil in the poultry meat trade. We are available to assist the country in other proteins as well. The action carried out was a success and we hope it can turn into good business for both parties”, he highlighted.
So far, Haiti and the Dominican Republic have appealed to pork imports from the US to cover the shortage in the domestic market.
